1Utilities
Check air pressure to the axis brake release valve.
Low or fluctuating air pressure can prevent the brake from fully releasing, which reads to the controller as a homing failure even though nothing electrical or mechanical has actually failed.
2Controls
Verify the home-position proximity sensor signal at the PLC input.
If the sensor never triggers, the axis has nothing to home against -- worth confirming before assuming the sensor itself is bad.
3Controls
Inspect the sensor cable and connector for damage or a loose pin.
A loose connector produces the exact same symptom as a failed sensor, and costs nothing to rule out first.
4Mechanical
Inspect the axis drive belt for wear or slippage.
A slipping belt can cause the axis to physically miss its home position even when every electrical signal checks out clean.
5Mechanical
If the bracket is intact but the sensor tests unresponsive, replace the home-position sensor.
Last resort -- only after utilities and controls both check out clean.
